N.H. Department of Energy Press Release
Concord, NH – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced that the State of New Hampshire has been selected to receive $43,510,000 from the Solar for All competitive grant program. EPA announced $7 billion in grant awards nationwide. New Hampshire’s application was a partnership between the New Hampshire Department of Energy as lead applicant, the New Hampshire Community Loan Fund, and New Hampshire Housing.
New Hampshire will use the funding in a variety of complementary ways to help low-income households and communities to deploy and benefit from residential solar projects. The Department of Energy will use funding to scale up its existing community solar program. The New Hampshire Community Loan Fund will help resident-owned communities install community solar through their ROC-NH program and New Hampshire Housing Finance Authority will use funding to install residential-serving community solar on workforce housing projects and public housing authority owned properties.
“New Hampshire is excited to have been selected for this funding that will help Granite Staters,” said New Hampshire Department of Energy Commissioner Jared Chicoine. “Too often, the financial benefits of solar generation are limited to the wealthy. New Hampshire will use this funding to expand opportunities for low-income households and communities to take advantage of clean energy.”
“Affordable housing that uses solar power to reduce energy costs in our state’s multifamily workforce housing developments will help reduce utility costs for residents and as well as for the developers of these apartments. Additionally, installing solar at these properties will reduce greenhouse gas emissions,” noted Rob Dapice, executive director of New Hampshire Housing. “Working with the NH Department of Energy, we will launch and manage a program that uses these federal funds in an efficient and effective manner.”
“We are thrilled to be working in partnership with the New Hampshire Department of Energy and NH Housing to advance climate justice through the Solar For All program,” said Steve Saltzman, President and CEO of NH Community Loan Fund. “This funding will deliver meaningful benefits to Resident-owned Community residents statewide. Ensuring all people who call New Hampshire home can access the benefits of renewable energy; lower pollution, reduced energy costs, and the creation of good-quality jobs – is a major step forward for the Granite State.”
EPA selected 60 applicants nationwide to receive funding from the $7 Billion Solar for All grant competition. Recipients include states, territories, Tribal governments, municipalities, and nonprofits. More information can be found on the EPA’s Solar for All website.
