Accessory Dwelling Units
The New Hampshire Accessory Dwelling Units statute (RSA 674:71-73) became law in 2017. The intent of the law is to expand the supply of housing in New Hampshire communities without further land development, as well as to encourage efficient use of existing housing stock and infrastructure, and provide an affordable housing option in communities. The statute defines accessory dwelling units (ADUs) as residential living units that are within or attached to a single family dwelling, and provide independent living facilities for one or more persons. The New Hampshire Department of Business and Economic Affairs provides other ADU resources and planning information.
