New Mortgage Program Offers Downpayment Assistance To New Hampshire Homebuyers
February 28, 2019
In addition to the existing Home Flex Plus program (FHA, VA, and USDA/RD insured), which provides up to 3% in cash help for those financing through a government-insured program, homebuyers now have the option of the new Home Preferred Plus program. Home Preferred Plus is a conventional mortgage program that provides 3% cash to help with downpayment and closing costs.
Like Home Flex Plus, the new conventional financing downpayment assistance program is offered through the New Hampshire Housing network of participating lenders. Borrowers can contact one through GoNHHousing.com/participating-lenders.
To qualify for the 3% cash downpayment help on both the Home Flex Plus and the new Home Preferred Plus, eligible borrowers must be at or below certain income limits. The cash assistance comes in the form of a second mortgage that is forgiven in full after four years.
Another program that many new homebuyers qualify for, regardless of who finances their home, is the Homebuyer Tax Credit program, available only through New Hampshire Housing. It provides a federal tax benefit of up to $2,000 every year that the homeowner lives in their home and continues to have a mortgage.
